A Fruitful Celebration: Lizzie & Will’s Family Farm-Inspired Wedding

For their wedding table plan, Lizzie and Will chose a theme close to their hearts: naming each table after a different fruit variety farmed by their family over the generations. This was such an exciting commission for me; I loved the idea of a palette that felt earthy yet bright, and I always jump at the chance to create watercolour food illustrations.

A Harvest of Varieties

The couple curated a fantastic mix of fruits, offering a beautiful range of colors, shapes, and textures to illustrate:

Fruit TypeVarieties
Apples: Janigold, Jazz, Russet
Cherries: Kordia, Rainier
Grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier
Pears: Comice
Plums: Seneca

The Creative Process

Lizzie and Will requested a softer approach than my signature style. To match the romantic, traditional feel of their invitations, they opted out of hard black outlines. Instead, I used a grey fine liner and soft pencil to pick out delicate details and add depth to the watercolour washes. This kept the illustrations feeling light and airy.

The final table plan was printed at A1 size and mounted on a 5mm foam board with a sophisticated matte finish. To complete the set, I designed 5” x 7” table name signs printed on a heavily textured paper that complemented the watercolor grain beautifully.

Modern Traditions

As you can see from the photos, the couple embraced the popular trend of family-style seating. By opting out of a traditional top table, they were able to enjoy their first meal as "Mr. & Mrs." nestled right among their guests—a wonderful trend I'm seeing more frequently in my seating plan designs.

A Meaningful Surprise

In addition to the table plan, I had the pleasure of working on a secret project with the Mother of the Bride. She asked me to design a label for a special wine produced in honour of the couple to be served as a wedding day surprise.

Using the fruit illustrations alongside the floral vines I’d originally created for their invitations, I was able to blend the two designs into a cohesive, elegant label. It was such a thoughtful, generous gift that made their day feel truly unique.
